Celiac Disease is a Medical Issue. I have a very severe case of Celiac and as such, I have very specific restrictions: No Gluten via IV, Oral, or Topical application.
My experience with the Hospital brought to the forefront of my attention that the medical community is not as aware as they should be. Nor am I satisfied that paramedics and EMTs would be fully aware if someone told them I had Celiac Disease.
To save them the trouble, and to protect myself in case I have a medical emergency in which I'm unconscious and alone, I have all of the requisite details on my Medical Alert Bracelet (with personal details replaced with generic on the below example), spelled out in big bold letters.
MY FULL NAME
CELIAC DISEASE
GLUTEN FREE ONLY
TOPICAL / ORAL / IV
ICE - PHONE NUMBER
This ensures that they are aware of my needs, and that they can get in touch with my ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact.
I just hope that they use the information on the bracelet if and when the time comes.
